Prof. Leandros A. Maglaras

Prof. Leandros A. Maglaras is a professor of cybersecurity in the School of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University. From September 2017 to November 2019, he was the Director of the National Cyber Security Authority of Greece. He obtained a B.Sc. (M.Sc. equivalent) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 1998, M.Sc. in Industrial Production and Management from the University of Thessaly in 2004, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of Thessaly, in 2008 and 2014 respectively. In 2018 he was awarded a Ph.D. in Intrusion Detection in SCADA systems from the University of Huddersfield He is featured in Stanford University’s list of the world’s Top 2% scientists. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and is an author of more than 300 papers in scientific magazines and conferences.  

Title: Cybersecurity & Sustainability

Today, countries have to support the increased resources that societies need to remain functional and protect their economy from crises. For this reason, countries rely on infrastructures (assets, industries, and systems) to handle and provide the required resources such as energy, communications, transportation, etc. We characterize as critical infrastructures the group of infrastructures that handle important resources such as power grids, water treatment plants, health services, and any other service which has to do with the maintenance of the national economy, health, and security. The humongous necessity of countries to satisfy the aforementioned requirements has as a result, the rapid inflow of technology in the critical infrastructures to control their operations and maximize their performance. However, these computer systems carry vulnerabilities and threats in their security. Moreover, all critical infrastructures are interconnected and interdependent between them and with the sectors of the economy. This strong association between the critical infrastructure sectors means that damage in one service of a sector or even worse the loss of one sector will undoubtedly affect in the same or greatest degree other critical sectors.

On the same time, cybercriminals are constantly finding new ways to infiltrate networks and information systems, and they’re discovering the path of least resistance which is typically through smaller companies. It should come as little surprise, given that many small- and mid-size businesses lack the resources to invest in adequate cybersecurity protection. Considering the stakes and the impact that even a single cyberattack can have, the need for innovative solutions that mitigate risks has never been greater.

In this talk, we will discuss how cybersecurity supports business sustainability and try to understand how incorporating elements of sustainability management into cybersecurity can improve an organization’s cybersecurity posture.

Habib Iya

Habib Iya serves as the Head of the Douala Office at the Port Autonome de Kribi (PAK). A dynamic solution innovator and problem solver, he leverages his expertise in data analysis to drive the development and implementation of cutting-edge solutions within PAK. With over 12 years of experience in international trade, Habib played a pivotal role in the establishment and operationalization of the Port of Kribi. In his previous role as Head of the Sales and Marketing Department, he managed port statistics, enabling strategic analyses to optimize operational efficiency. He also spearheaded the dematerialization initiative in collaboration with the customs administration, significantly enhancing process efficiency in preparation for the port’s inauguration in 2018. Currently, Habib is leading the “PAKAZURE” project, an artificial intelligence-driven platform aimed at enhancing port productivity and decision-making capabilities, thereby strengthening PAK’s integration of advanced technologies into its operations.

Title: AI and Decision Engineering 

This keynote will highlight the central role that artificial intelligence will play in decision engineering, a rapidly evolving field aimed at optimizing strategic decision-making. Using the concrete example of the Pakazure platform, developed for the Port Autonome de Kribi (PAK), it will demonstrate how AI-based tools will transform port operations. In the future, Pakazure will combine advanced technologies such as predictive analytics and machine learning to deliver even more accurate strategic recommendations, reducing inefficiencies, improving customer services and boosting global competitiveness.
 
The presentation will be structured around three main parts: an introduction to the concepts of AI and decision engineering to lay the groundwork; an exploration of Pakazure’s future possibilities, including its operational and strategic impacts; and a conclusion dedicated to development prospects and future innovations. This course will enable participants to anticipate the benefits of AI in their sectors, and understand how these technologies will define tomorrow’s strategies.
