WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR ISSUING CAMEROONIAN VISAS?
The new process for issuing Cameroonian ordinary visas shall include four phases:
- Online pre-enrolment: The applicant creates a user account on the platform, fills the online form then validates and submits it. They then receive a confirmation notification via mail or SMS. For holders of diplomatic and service passports, the application and submission of supporting documents shall be done as follows:
- In-person and hardcopy submission, at the Diplomatic Mission or Consular Post for applicants residing in the city of attachment;
- By email using the official mailing address of the Diplomatic Mission or Consular Post for applicants residing out of the city where a Diplomatic Mission or Consular Post is located;
- Online payment of visa fees: Using one of many payment options (credit card, electronic payment). The applicant receives a notification of proof of payment via email or SMS.
- Processing of the Application: The application is processed by the competent or closest Diplomatic Mission or Consular Post. For applicants in areas far-flung from Diplomatic Missions or those not covered by a diplomatic mission, an online visa issuance authorisation together with a QR Code closes this stage. For applicants residing in a city with a competent Mission, a notification is generated automatically and sent to them via mail or SMS to schedule an appointment to complete the biometric enrolment formality. Either procedure shall be completed within 72 following the online pre-enrolment. This deadline shall be 24 hours for express applications.
- Printing of the visa: It shall be done either at the Border Post of Entry for holders of the online visa issuance authorisation or, alternatively, at the competent Diplomatic Mission or Consular Post for applicants having completed their biometric enrolment at said Mission or Post. This phase is completed with the printing of the visa sticker on the applicant’s passport.

I do not have time to apply for a visa before my departure, can I apply for a visa on arrival?
You must apply online. If you are in a country where there is no diplomatic representation and if your application has been validated, you will be advised to register on arrival at one of the entry points to Cameroon (airports, etc.) and have the visa sticker affixed to your passport. You must therefore present yourself with your passport. As a reminder, the visa is a document that does not give an irrevocable right of entry.

Which country is competent to process my visa application?
Applicants from countries where Cameroon does not have a Diplomatic Mission or Consular Post and those who are geographically distant from their Diplomatic Mission or Consular Post, must imperatively go with the online visa authorization document, to the country’s point of entry, in order to obtain the visa. On the other hand, applicants residing in cities where Cameroon has a Diplomatic Mission or Consular Post, must go there with the said document, in order to obtain the visa.
How long does it take to get a visa?
Processing times vary depending on the nationality of the applicant, the purpose of the visit and the local conditions of issuance. For a short-stay visa, the application must be submitted at least 15 days before the planned visit and cannot be submitted more than 6 months before the planned visit. It is the applicant’s responsibility to take the necessary precautions to respect the deadlines when an appointment system is set up. Some types of visas require special verifications (e.g., civil status) or consultation with different French authorities, which may lengthen the processing time.
How much does a visa cost?
Visa applicants must pay a fee for the administrative processing of the application:
- 153€ for the normal, short stay visa (0 to 6 months)
- 229€ for the normal visa, long stay (from 6 months to 1 year)
- 229€ for an express visa, short stay (0 to 6 months)
- 305€ for the express visa, long stay (from 6 months to 1 year)
In certain cases and for certain categories of applicants, an exemption of these fees may be applied. Visa fees are not refunded, even if the application is refused or withdrawn.
How far in advance of the planned visit should I apply for a visa?
Applications can be submitted up to three months prior to the start of the planned trip. It is advisable to apply at least 15 calendar days before the planned visit. However, it is also recommended to file the visa application taking into account national holidays in the destination state and in the country where you are applying for the visa. Holders of a multiple-entry visa (valid for a period of at least six months) may apply for a visa before the expiration of the visa.
