Gandia

To visit Gandia means to discover a very special city. Its beach, its streets and its natural surroundings give you the shade of a city that combines the warmth of the Mediterranean places with the tourist attraction. To live Gandia means to live the Mediterranean, to live the party, the gastronomy, the nature, the sport, etc. Gandia shows you all the possibilities for you to choose the one you like.

Gandia is one of the most important cities of the Valencian Community. It currently has 81 993 inhabitants, according to the municipal register of population, and this locate it among the largest and most important cities of the province of Valencia. It has a great socio-economic development within the central regions of Valencia. Gandia offers to the visitors many possibilities when performing routes and visits during their stay in the city. Thanks to its rich past can be seen traces of it when you go for a walk around the town, enjoying the most significant and historical monuments of the city. It is an increasingly modern city, which offers more interests in its cultural and natural offer without losing its origins nor its identity.

The weather

Gandia enjoys the mildest climate of the Mediterranean coast, with pleasant temperatures that stay in enjoyable limits, as in summer as in winter. Annual average temperatures are in the 11 º C in January and in 25 º C in August, a peaceful climate that ensures mild winters and warm springs. History of Gandia Located on an alluvial plain formed by the river Serpis, between low hills of Beniopa, the mountain of Benirredrà and the mountains range Falconera, this municipality is split into ten districts. Its historical roots are found in the mountains, particularly in the Palaeolithic site of the Parpalló Cave, one of the most important sites of the Mediterranean Peninsular and that has left thousands of remains on platelets and paintings inside. The Iberians occupied the top of the Bayren (name of the castle) on the fourth century before Christ. The origin of the current settlement of the city dates back to the Islamic period. In 1249 King James I gave the villa to his son, Prince Pedro. Converted into a duchy by Martin the Humane, the house of Borgias purchased this duchy in 1485. To its modernization and industrial development was crucial the arrival of the railway and the harbour construction in 1890. Today it is a thriving city with a large diversification of the economy, especially and particularly in the service sector and in tourism.

Gandia beach

Any time of year is ideal to visit the beach. The exceptional quality of our beaches is more than proven because it has all the hallmarks of quality: ISO 9001, ISO-1400, Quality Q and EMAS. It has 7 kilometres of coastline and an area of 700,000 m2 of sand in all, a beach with different environments to choose the most appropriate for you. It is the ideal place to enjoy the best beach of the Mediterranean with quality certification. A few meters from the apartments and hotels there are 420,000 m2 of fine sand where sun. In total 95,000 places of accommodation to enjoy the best residential area. Stresses the l'Ahuir Beach, where it has been regenerated the dune area of the same, here you can enjoy a privileged space with a wonderful landscape of sand dunes. Enjoy the seafront of nearly three kilometres, to go for a walk, cycling or skating, fully equipped with all the services you can need.

The marsh

Gandia Marsh occupies a total of 450 ha, ie 37% of the total area of Safor Marsh. Geomorphologically, it is a wetland area developed in a coastal plain. Is little depth due to both natural and anthropogenic clogging of water sheets. The Marsh of Gandia is part of a larger environmental unit known as the Marsh of Safor, with a total area of 1225.34 It includes the municipalities of Tavernes de la Valldigna, Xeraco, Xeresa and Gandia. Is little depth due to both natural and anthropogenic siltation of water bodies.To access this site you should take the road N-332 Gandia towards Xeresa or CV-670 towards Grau to deviate further towards the beach of Gandia Part of the Marsh is inside the Catalogue of Wetlands of the Generalitat Valenciana specifically, the north zone of the marsh and the zone of L’Ullal de l’Estany and De la Perla. The hydric contribution of this ecosystem comes from groundwater, which outcrop in the surface through springs (ullals), natural sources that come into contact with the surface aquifers. We must also indicate that surface water collaborate in the hydric contribution to the marsh, but in a lesser percentage.

Gastronomy

To visit Gandia is a luxury for the palate; fish, rice, products from the more traditional gardens, seafood ... a whole world of sensations for lovers of good food. The traditional Mediterranean diet finds in Gandia the best place to enjoy it. Here the local products offer us the most amazing combinations and the most exquisite dishes. The Safor is a region rich in gastronomy. Among its most relevant dishes stresses the "Fideuà." For 35 years, there is the International Competition "Fideuà de Gandia" of gastronomy, to promote this dish among the best national and international chefs. Since then, chefs from Europe, America and even Asia have visited us. It is common to have participants from France, Italy, Mexico, Japan and Moscow. The local gastronomy also has a wide range of sweets and desserts, which has been improved over time, as many patissiers have come with a highly formation, who have worked in the recovery of some desserts and making new ones.
