The Second International Conference on Green Communications and Networking

October 25–26, 2012 | Gandia, Spain

Session Title: Workshop on energy efficiency in wired communication networks.

About:

Even though mobile networks and other wireless access technologies are the main consumers of energy in the global communication infrastructure, strong attention needs to be made on the wired part that makes up the backbone network and the datacenters (storage and computing). With the global growth in for example fiber to the home access, a huge growth in user capacity will enable a similar growth in ultra high definition video based services such as 4K and 8K TV broadcast and on demand services, telemedicine etc. This will have a significant impact on the power consumption in the core network and service centers - unless action is taken.

Scope:

This workshop, will focus on both short term solutions that will improve the current infrastructure and technology, and long term solutions based on new concepts and upcoming technologies.

Research Topics:

Energy efficient PHY-layer mechanisms and devices for wired networks.

Energy-efficient MAC layer protocol optimization.

Energy-aware Traffic Engineering.

Extensions or modifications to conventional routing mechanisms.

Application of new technologies to energy-based network management in wired networks (e.g. cognitive technologies, software defined networking).

Paper Types:

Short papers presenting new proposals, preliminary work, work in progress, initial or complete sets of results.

The workshop is a good opportunity for novel PhD candidates to present their initial work.

Dates:

Initial Submission Deadline - 1st August

Notification and Registration Deadline - 1st September

Camera Ready Submission Deadline - 1st October
